Hasegawa 1/200 Space Shuttle Update 1

The above photo shows the tunnel press fit to the Spacelab. I covered it with slightly wrinkled foil. I think it gives me a good approximation of the thermal blankets. I’ll cover the Spacelab itself after I finish adding some details.

The front of the Spacelab module had some extensions that housed some additional equipment like various tanks. I marked the front of the lab to show where I need to attach the extensions. The pencil doesn’t show up well in the photo.

After measuring the height of the cone shape I cut some 0.010 sheet and curled it to make attaching it easier. I used Tenax solvent cement to attach it and also added one on the other side. Next up I cut some triangles for the ends of each extension and glued them in place.

I then made a pattern from some parchment paper and cut some sections of 0.010 sheet to make the front of the sections. A little sanding and the sections were done.

Here is another view.

Now it’s ready for foil. I also made a modification to the Canadarm. I cut off a section that I guess was supposed to be something being lifted by the arm. I then added a short bit of rod to represent the grapple device. I drilled out the center of it for a more scale appearance. The overly large joints were also sanded down.

This will also get a covering of foil. All the foiled parts will eventually get painted white to represent the thermal blankets.

Thanks for looking. More to come.
