Hasegawa 1/200 Space Shuttle Update 3

As you can see from the above photo, I started adding more foil to the Spacelab module. I also added the mounting bars to the tunnel portion. They are made from 0.030 rod. I removed small bits of the foil at the attachment points and used CA to attach them to the tunnel. I also added small rectangles to the side of the bay to provide the attachment point for the mounting bars.

Below is a photo of the Spacelab module completely foiled.

With that completed I painted the Ku-band antenna. I used Testors Model Master Chrome Silver for the parts below the dish. The dish was painted with Tamiya Gun Metal. I added small bits of Tamiya Transparent Orange to represent the areas that were covered with gold foil. Finally, I added a bit of Tamiya White for the remaining small bits of the antenna.

The final parts of the payload/payload bay modifications were made by constructing the external experiment pallet of the Spacelab. I used 0.030 square strip for the main part. I added four small attachment points to each corner of the main truss with 0.020 rod. The three canisters are made from 0.10 rod. The large box was constructed from 0.3 mm x 4.0 mm strip stock. The penny hopefully gives some idea of the scale of the parts. I also sprayed Tamiya White primer on the main Spacelab and tunnel.

I added a Getaway Special canister to the side of the payload bay and then dry fitted the other Spacelab parts. I think it makes a passable 1/200 representation of the D-1 Spacelab payload bay.

That’s it for now. Thanks for looking.
