Hasegawa 1/72 F-117 Nighthawk Update 2

Things are moving along well with the F-117. The landing gear bays need to be white. So I used a combination of paper and masking tape to mask off the bottom. I then sprayed the bays white. It took a few coats to make sure that the entire bay was covered.

I also started priming the landing gear, landing gear doors, and wheels. I’ll hand paint the wheels and the outside of the gear doors. You can see that I’m not done painting them. The black plastic likes to show through. Some of the doors had some fairly deep ejector pin marks that I had to smooth out a bit.

Before painting the main assembly NATO Black, I needed to mask off the landing gear bays so they would stay white. I started by applying some masking tape to the sides of the bays.

I then stuffed the bays with small bits of paper towel to cover the bottoms.

Then it was time to spray on the black. I hand painted the inside of FLIR bay for better coverage.

I did the same to the DLIR bay on the bottom of the aircraft.

You can also see at the top of the above photo, that I’ve started painting some of the landing gear parts with their NATO Black. The tires are painted Rubber Black.

There isn’t much assembly left. Just the landing gear and the two windows that cover the FLIR and DLIR bays. I’ll probably apply the decals before attaching the landing gear. But that will all happen in the next update.

Thanks for looking.
